NYC

fabulous...the amt of time we spent in nyc (4 days) was pretty much just rite..i felt 5 days would have been better. we had a gr8 time cos we all roughly had the same mindset..which i think is impt for travelling together. basically we took our time to smell the roses..we went from place to place..just joking on the subway, making silly comments. no rushing ard..no hassle...and yet we got to visit quite a few places.

having breakfast in bed by my window. sausage, egg cheese sandwich and a cup of coffee. there's a 24 hr convenience store right outisde my hostel (Broadway hostel), so we pretty much get our food, drinks and snacks from there. imagine lazing ard by the window watching the cars go by...observing the human traffic..sip some coffee and wolfing into a yummy sandwich.ahhh~
found at the counter of the convenience store. they don't sell such things so readily in singapore. there are like 12 diff brands of it..haha..looks like sg guys r stronger eh..lol

like i was saying..who needs these??haha

there's a starbucks located just 3min walk from my hostel. it's our personal headquarters..we go there to settle all our admin stuff. very useful cos we have issues like MODULES to settle. bleah

generally the hostel provided for our essential needs adequately. i wouldn't say it was first class..but it made our stay in nyc enjoyable enough.

Time Sq on a sat night. really colourful and happening place..gave me the impression i was in sg preparing for a count down. hustle and bustle. was a pity i was really sleepy when i was there...just walked ard, snapped shots....did not do many happening things...

not as much as nafiur did of cos..lol. look at that dazed expression

central park saw us roaming ard, checking out the crowd..looking every bit like tourists. haha i've concluded it's the sunglasses. it's the 'standard tourist look'

empire state building..the view was gd, but the viewing gallery was constrained. i suppose they were just afraid of pple leaping off like mary poppins. does seem a little tempting if u're not afraid of heights.

statue of liberty..view from an island. so not as fasincating as that of empire state building..but the viewing gallery was dfinitely more open..more viewer friendly. weather was hot when we got there..in fact i was melting that day.

broadway show.....'The Phantom of the Opera!" omg..i was so fascinated by it since i was p6..when my classmate played the song on the piano..i nearly wanted to learn the piano cos of that song. haha..it still sounds so grand to me..so mysterious and alluring. draws u towards it in a way..really gd. and it was ex...i think it cost us 60 usd each for 1 ticket. but it was well worth it..u know why?cos i can say here...Hey!i watched a broadway show at nyc..phantom of the opera!
haha..okie..$60usd = S$90 just for that kick.

not forgetting the budget meals we had. we were on a save $$ campaign..and basically settled for only one kind of food most of the trip > subway. yes. the offer was 4 subways for $10usd, starting at 6pm daily. 4 hungry wolves eagerly lurking around subway branch daily waiting for the 6 o'clock offer to start. once the clock hits 6, we move into action. with clockwork precision, we set up the tables and made the orders.and yes, the waiter does roll his eyes when he sees us rush in. hahah..okok..dat sounds dreadfully pathetic. no..it wasn't that bad. don't get a scare...old kenneth..when u read this 50 yrs later. you were not in such a pathetic state. it wasn't that bad..really~ =) it was just a preferred dining area cos it was near our hotel.lol~

subways..they linked manhattan perfectly. like i was saying, it's hard to get lost in manhattan. just go to the ticket station, ask the man for a subway map..and voila..u're on ur way. the higher street numbers denotes going uptown...and it's basically very user friendly. if u can get used to singapore MRT, the subway shouldn't be much of a problem.

Missing our flight to Las Vegas.hahaha..that was memorable. that was a clear sign of our inexperience. we were so complacent..we left late that mornign of our flight, deciding to give ourselves like a 45min allowance. so due to a slight miscalculation, we reached the airport with 20min to spare.haha.(yes we're jokers) and well..basically we missed the flight.lol~..really cui3...for a gd 15min we were struck silent..another 200 bucks for another flight??? thankfully..by the grace of god we managed to get onto a later flight wif an additional fee of 35 usd. better than having topay the entire fare again. really grateful for that. lesson learnt > be 2 hrs early for ALL your flights! remember..remember...remember....

departure pics (backtrack a little)

In las vegas now..thank god for internet here.internet is quite fast and stable here..at least i have a chance to look through modules and stuff. the temperature in las vegas is really hot..40 degrees celsius..just walking ard made me thirsty. but we still wandared around...i guess the bulk of our day was spent in caesars. went shopping..bought some souveniers and gifts. ok i shall touch on that in my las vegas entry. for now i just wanna upload some of my departure pics at wildwood and think abt them...

taken early in the morning. really early. so touched..the taiwan people actually stayed over in our kitchen dat night so that they could send us off the next day!(we weren't aware of that cos we were sleeping already by then). really sweet.even nice nieghbours like kerrine woke up early to see us off.

*amazing race music at the background* abt to embark on our travel quest. amos is not in the pic cos he took a different bus there (he had to go AC to settle something first)

me and Kelly (yes it's spelt kelly and he's a guy) the night b4 departure. i think taiwanese chinese language is damn cute..haha..and it somehow sounds friendlier than sg chinese.
me and my fav taiwanese gals..angela and jessica. jessica always has a hand sign to go alongside her photos, as usual.haha. both are holding on to bowls of my chicken and ham pasta! =P

on the verge of giving up my apartment keys.just 20sec before surrendering it.something i've been holding onto for nearly 3 mths. *sniff*

hit nyc

in new york city 101st street starbucks. morning time 9.51am..this morning simply felt so gd..i woke up, rolled around, pulled my sheets up and sniffed the air. it smelt gr8..i opened my eyes and wowed. scenery was gr8 too...a typical new york city look.lol~ red bricks, blue skies, grey busy roads and a slightdrizzle. brushed myteeth, grabbed my coat and headed down to starbucks..3min walk away. lovely~

prob won't be on consistently for the next couple of weeks. but consideringthe fact i'm an internet addicit, i'll be trying my best to come online..check emails, check on my buddies' blogs, msn, school stuff and other admin issues. i just wanna takethis chance to assure you nyc is a lovely place..we got picked up 3 times in 10min yesterday..right after we got out of the subway towards our hostel.haha~ firstwas a lady who proactively walked over and offered us directions for our hostel, next was a friendly guy who started a conversation wif naf about the best deals in nyc, an old man whogave us further directions on his own accord.

we spent the night roaming ard hunting for food, and checking out times sq at our own pace. ican'tbelieve i met michelle...in nyc time sq on a sat night..my gdness..its like how coincidental..for awhile it felt like a countdown in sg..shoulder to shoulder, bustling, laughters... we lazed ard and snapped shots.a very enchanting city image. well decorated and beautifully lighted.

will be back again..i have so many things i wanna blog abt..but we have lack of time.today going to hit chinatown to try out the dimsum and duck rice and some realy cheap shopping. family and friends,i miss you all.

love,
ken

final few moments

i woke up this morning with mixed emotions. the first thing that came to mind was "hey..i'll be checking out of this apartment this evening..." and yet another thought seeped in.."3 more weeks b4 u hit home!"and yet again.."your last time in wildwood...".wow i was baffled..really..i just lay down, stretched and yawned, and simply relished in the thought that another chapter in my life is coming to a close. a brief phase of my life spent in that had brought so much joy..laughter..shivers..fears..apprehension..wonders...it's really hard to imagine i'll have to just let it go soon. i was at the beach the other day and i just scooped up some nice warm white sand and clenched my fist. upon opening my hand, the sand just drifted away in the wind..in a tranquil, subtle and natural manner. this is going to be how i'm going to leave wildwood. at peace with myself..at ease with my new friends..ready to go.

today the taiwanese girls came over..and really surprised us with a series of wonderfully cooked dishes. imagine my surprise when i came home from the bank and heard their familiar chatter and saw a mini feast spread out across the table.haha mini feast sounds ironic..well it involved quite a few dishes..AMAZING fried rice, beef wif green pepper, chicken soup, cabbage & carrots & bacon, brocolli and cauliflower. I mai tu liao (hokkien for "don't need to wait already") i wolfed in rite away..chomped and chomped..and the gals were just so happy to see that. they kept skipping ard in circles as leon and i tucked in ferociously. sounds abit silly rite?haha

well it's true.

anyway we were overcome with gratitude. leon mentioned that now we know thats the feeling like when someone cooks for u b4 u go.(cos last time we cooked for yenny and jenny). it just makes u feel so cared for..and plus the fact i was so delicious ..omg..so anyway after dat i decided to prepare something for them in return. due to a time constraint (they had work in 45min), i pulled upmy sleeves and started on my famous chicken pasta dish. really determined to give them a treat themselves for being just so sweet.

after months of gruelling training, i must say my cooking skills have improved. i can'twait to go home to cook for my family..like beef stew, szechuan spicy seafood soup, addictive fried rice, pasta, beefpepper rice, black pepper chicken. (doing this to make my parents drool..lol)

anyway..it was a nice feeling when i was done cooking and they tucked in. i think i'm really going to miss them..feel like a kor wif them somehow..lol. they're really bubbly and cute and bouncy. it's a pity i only have the chance to know them for a week or so...ayez~ so sweet..haha

the past few days can be summed up in 1 word --> relax. good because it was exactly what i wanted..to simply rest my body...chill out, relax my mind b4 i embark on my travelplans. bad because my pay check doesn't look too pretty. really didn't earn glamarously this week..haha..but who cares..i've ploughed in the earlier days, now is the time to relish in the summer mood...bo charp and have fun.

been having a few parties continuously..had one with the admissions pple yesterday..oh man mel whips up a tasty pasta i'm telling u..i call it heroin pasta..cos when u start on it u can't stop. tried to squeeze out some tips from her but she kept mom..and she left this morning..so..i guess i'll have to hunt for her again.haha~ tonight the taiwanese gang is coming over..a pretty large grp..so it's another chinese lesson for me again.hahaha..gd practice~ feeling kinda sleepy now tho..but i wanna spend 1 last sunset at the beach..just me and my boogie board this time. catch a few waves...whiff the salty air...kick thru the sand..and most imptly, admire the descent of the great red fireball down the atlantic ocea's horizon. last one i could see in wildwood...and it's about to happen in maybe 30min. so i'llbe headed down pretty soon. just had our stand by area by melissa from recruiting office..and we're officially gd to go. just waiting for the sun to rise tmr b4 we make our way to new york! bagpacker ready..all set to go..a new adventure of a lifetime awaits...

tonights dinner will consist of the remnants of food i still have..lol prob will be instant mee..and canned soup. going to take a long walk tonight..prob all the way to 1st street. i wanna think through all the gd/bad times i've had here..wanna look into the eyes of the people here tonight..and embed these memories into my heart.
cheers
p/s i'm seriously in a blogging mood tonight..will be back after going beach and my walk.

beach bum thats me

left trails of footprints on the sand
lay down,slept immediately
woke up,admired the way the waves rushed to shore
spoke to some seagulls who were hanging ard near me
read my book
sipped my drink
stretched,yawned
smile at the babe next to me and got ignored
listen to my oldies
choke on some sand accidentally when i yawned and turned around

washington dc memories

*currently seated with nice latin music, a hot cup of cafe francais, fan on my left, without a hoot in the world* 2pm

3 more days in wildwood. so many things seemed to have happened..the latest was really a bang. i'll touch on it later. God is a really gracious God..whatever I have, I pray that he uses it for his plan. I know I'm alive now not cos of my own merits..it's cos of his mercy and grace. I commit everything i have to Him. so thankful for i can count on him for company and protection.

We headed to Washington DC last weekend. Amos, Leon, myself, 2 taiwan gals and steven. what was supposed to be a carefree trip nearly ended on a fatal note. the trip there and time spent there was ok..pretty str8forward. headed down to white house, abraham lincoln memorial hall, fbi building, capitol..and some other other places to snap shots and clown around. We stayed one night over in the courtyard hotel cos we didn't have enough time to visit everywhere. (we reached there 5pm) cos it was a 3 hr drive. anyway we had a nice dinner..went back..played some cards and headed to bed. was a smooth day..next day we woke up to carry on with our visitation. had hot dogs as we roamed around the washington monument, fooling around, laughing, whiffing the air, enjoying the green sights that lay before us. we made a few stops b4 we decided it was time to head back. cos the gals had work at 5pm, we left at abt 12pm.

since i was the one who navigated when we were making our way to DC, Leon (Kok ming) navigated back, with steven as the driver. the initial trip was ok..got disoriented only a few times, but things were def in control. we stopped at a convenience store..and that was when amos and i changed seats. i still remember asking him if he wanted to sit in the middle, while i sat near the window cos i felt it was abit stuffy, but he too wanted to sit by the window. so the seating arrangement was finalised as such :
Front : Steven (driver),Leon
Back: Angela, Jessica, myself, Amos

We moved onto I95..we were moving on..the atmosphere was kinda tired i suppose..cos we din have much sleep the night b4. worse, it started raining.very heavily. to make the worst worse, our driver was a reckless one.haha.i'm not exaggerating when i say we reminded him more than 10 times on the way there not to speed/adruptly change lanes/clown ard on the road. personally i was a little scared during the first 5min i saw him drive..cos he is used to china driving style, which is very anti-traffic rules.haha. he's also rash and aggressive by nature, and i believe a person's character is exemplified in his driving techniques. so u can guess it wasn't a very pleasant journey to and fro.

anyway, our car was tailgating another car in front, which came to a somewhat adrupt stop. I vaguely remember myelf freezing in fear when i saw the distance we had behind the car and our car speed, keeping the wet roads in consideration. 2 sec before everything happened, i knew we were going to hit .it was only a matter of how hard we were going to hit. i remember shouting "stop stop stop!!" and then it happened.

First collision: wham bam into car in front
I suppose when steven realised he wasn't able to avoid contact, he swerved right.
Second collision: SUPER SUPER SUPER wham from a pickup behind us. no joke..dat impact was really insane..burnt metal, intense motion, screams and all, panic, i remember hearing amos calling out really loudly.
Third collision: a black car hit us from the back this time, lesser impact, prob cos it braked hard
Fourth impact : we ran into a tree and that was the end.

it was insane..i just lay down in shock. it wasn't somiuch of a shoch cos i had like 2 sec to prepare. for the rest i knew it had to be worse, cos the gals were napping, and i don't think amos was watching the car in front. leon was awake but i think he wasn't really prepared for it as well.

We evacuated the car...the gals, steven, amos and myself managed to climb out. to my horror i realised leon wasn't moving. i really cannot beginto describe the kind of fear i felt at that point of time. i remember the first thought in my mind..."am i going to lose my best friend just like that??" i rushed back into the car..and i saw his eyes flickering. he wasn't making any sound..he was just stoning in the front, his eyes half opened. it reminded me somehow of how he would look when he was very very very bored in a school lecture and was about to doze off. I knew he was fighting to remain conscious..so i held him gently by the cheeks and tried calling out him. i kept going "leon..it's me,ken.you're going to be ok..u'll be ok..i'm here". I felt something warm on my hands. turning to look what was it..i experienced a really really tremendous wave of fear. my hands were covered wif blood. i recall thinking to myself.."shit i have the blood of my best friend on my hand!!" i was just paralysed with fear and shock for a gd 5 sec..i sat there..helpless..about to go crazy. i din really dare move him too much, for fear of aggravating any broken bones.all i could do was move his cheeks, encouraging him. it was then he made some noises, responding that he was awake. imagine seeing ur friend with blood and glass over his face, only 30% awake. it was really a huge nightmare.

a kind father and his daughter stopped by..they were paramedics so they took control of the situation. they did a spinal support for him, while 911 made its way. amos was sent off in an ambulance cos of neck injury, while leon was evacuated in a helicopter. i took the ambulance with amos..and when i reached Christiana Care Hospital in Newark, leon was just about to arrive as well. i remember on the ambulance..i kept praying..praying that things will be ok...i kept praying for leon and amos..and somehow i must say i didn't feel too much fear. I somehow knew things would be in control. it was just a feeling...something that cannot be described by the human flesh.it was sort of like...if god is in control, what can go wrong? i surprised myself then.. that i could still muster these shreds of childlike faith admist such a disaster. but i really din feel very scared..i just knew things were in control.don't ask how exactyly i know, but i just knew it. also somewhere in my heart, i was overwhelmed with thankfulness i wasn't hurt. i recall repeating over and over again.."thank god i'm ok thank god i'm ok thank god i'm ok. this is the second time god has preserved me from a fatal accident. i'm living on his time. lord use me for ur purpose lord..whatever plan u have, use me lord." those thoughts kept rummaging through my mind throughout the entire journey..each time panic arose within me, these thoughts re-surfaced once again, giving me an extraordinary peace.

We reached the hospital in about 15min, i followed amos in.

Miracle 1: it was then i realised he just strained his neck. no sprains,no broken bones.
all he had to do was to x ray to reconfirm. next i hunted around for leon..they wouldn't let me in, all i saw was leon being pushed into the emergency room.on it was written "for trauma patients". it was something like a scene from ER. about 6 doctors/nurses tended to him, shutting the door on my face.
Miracle 2: after awhile, a kind lady came out and told me he was talking..and he should be fine. at that moment, i was somehow engulfed in a huge wave of emotion. the pent up shock, fear, panic whatever just erupted..and my nose started tingling and my eyes stinged. took me a few minutes to recollect myself...b4 i went tofind amos. from that point onwards, things were much better. knowing that my 2 friends were verified by doctors to be ok eased off 90% of the load on my shoulders. The rest of the night, i spent moving from amos to leon in hospital, and settling the admin issues. steven and the gals arrived later, and while the gals rested in the waiting room, setevn had to settle the car/police issues.
Miracle 3: We only had to pay $47.00 for the whole accident. Yup..which steven for, on account of "careless driving". That was it. Medical bills summed up to a hefty amount, but CIEE'shealth insurance settled it. car had insurance as well, so it was ok. car was scrapped by the way.
Miracle 4: i managed to contact a very kind hearted soul from CIEE who helped us through the night. she was like an angel..really. so reassuring and patient. right after the accident, i tried contacting moreys piers for assiatance. informed them that we had 2 patients under critical observation, i had 2 gals who were in a state of panic, and we were broke with no credit card. asked for assistance in any way, preferably if someone could come down to guide us. i was just hoping a local could come down and give us the assurance we needed.but very sadly, melissa from morey's piers recruiting office just shrugged it off. i'm notexaggerating, she said she couldn't help..and just tried to hang up. at that point of time, making a call was so difficult, cos we were from another state, and it was so expensive and we couldn't find any coins. the second callwemade, we reached melissa's call answering machine. really really screwed up feeling..i remember thinking this thought to myself.."we fell into a dark pit..we need some assistance to climb out..and the only pple we thought we could depend on just turned and walked away" it was really bad. imust really say i'm very disappointed in the way the recruiting office handled the situation. it not only reflected a severe lack of professionalism, it depicted a small worth of...yes..heartlessness. (to make matters worse, when we got back, our friends told us melissa told them she was in contact with us the entire night, talked to each and every one of us and we were all ok...F*** you man..big time). anyway yup miracle 4 was when i called ciee and this lady called angie eased us out of the situation. arranged for lodging for us at day's inn, a cab from day's inn to wilmington bus station the following morning, reserved tickets for us from wilmington bus terminal to atlantic city, all on her credit card. so we didn't have to pay anything.
Miracle 5: we were about to set off on foot from the hospital to the Day's inn to spend the night when a doctor arrowed the security officers to drive us there instead. miracle for us,sai kang for the security officers.lol. so we got a nice air con ride to the inn.

at that point of time, we were all evidently physically ok.leon still had blood stains on his face, and he was still in a large daze. amos was doing ok,with a stiff neck. so we spent the night there,b4 setting off the next morning.

i felt i learnt so much from this experience...themost impt lesson was how to be thankful to god for everything. it was heartwarming when i was toking to leon about this incident, and he never once mentioned why were we so unlucky to have an accident. instead he kept saying he's very thankful he's alive and walked out with just cuts and bruises. i feel such a spirit of gratitude breeds a very simple childlike faith in a larger being(which is God for me) .but for him, he's a free thinker so i suppose it just makes him wonder about the larger picture. had dinner wif him at panda last night and he mentioned he has been filled with such thoughts. i suppose this whole experience has changed him,and he's become more aware of the realism of life.

the whole experience can be summed up with this > God is our only provider.in Him we put our trust.

3 more days to the end of our working phase, and the start of our travel. i pontang work tdy..hee.and tmr too.wana really slow down time and do things i'll enjoy. time to walk out to the beach without a worry..stretch out my arms, feel the warmth of the sun on my shoulders and smell the atlantic breeze. time to roll along the wildwood sands and feel like mua ji, time to spend more time with my friends laughing at everything, time to sip on ice cold gatorade while watching the sea's horizon, time to walk through the streets of wildwood, which has been my home for the past 2months and so. and of cos, time to slow down the pace of my life and just medidate on a spirit of gratitude for everything i have.

beach,here i come.

a mindful of thoughts

i really don't know where to begin. i have like so many thoughts swarming ard right now..so many things i haven't blogged abt and just so much i'm scared i'll forget about. lol~..i'll just take my time..and try to recollect as much as i can.

*closes eyes and thinks hard*

okie..1 of the thoughts is the reality of returning back sg. after erlina yenny and jenny left, it struck me how fast this whole chapter is coming to a close. right after they left, a group of guys from mag1 left too..and it dawned upon me it'll be my turn in about 8 days. 8 days!! this pales in comparison when i compare it to my 'take it for granted' attitude when i first came.."3 more months le..relac le.." sigh..now everyday is precious. Of cos going back is good too..cos i get to see my family and friends (mom this is for u hor..heh) but i suppose it's the realisation that i'm never going to experience such a laid back life again that strikes me. yup..laid back life coupled with fresh summer weather and fantastic friends. a really nice combi.

Something lingering in my mind recently is my pearl export set..ahhh~ and my sabien hammered cymbals. i can just picture it waiting for me patiently at home, sitting sweetly at a corner of my room, gently beckoning me to come over and try it out again. it's been so long since i rolled ard with it...sometimes i hear some pretty gd beats when i'm at work and i use my rescue tube to drum it out.haha. thats about all the practice i get for now. really looking forward to going back to resume lessons with henson. miss getting scolded by him for not practising hard enough somehow.

going washington dc tmr..amos,leon,steven,2 taipei gals and myself. I don't really know the taipei gals..only briefly chatted with them in our kitchen for the past few days..and it's kinda hard talking to them actually. really should have paid more attention in my chinese classes when i was younger.haha really must be a typical 12 yr acs boy..when i speak chinese pple seem to find it amusing. when i talk to the taiwan gals it's like a chicken and a duck trying to interact. haha..nvm..i'm determined to use this trip to brush up on my chinese skills.

lovely weather tdy. i'm seriously considering grabbing a book plus a hot drink in a flask and a pretty gal, going to the beach to watch the sunset. only problem is - i've finished my book, i don't have a hot flask, and certainly no pretty gal to date. so i guess it'll just be yours truly mr lonely walking by himself to the beach.haha. i'm really tired tdy..last few days of sleeping 3-4 hrs taking its toll on me. think i'll take a gd rest tonight b4 my trip tmr.

*arrrrgh* ok after the previous paragraph i went to take a bath and i just got back..and realised that i've run out of underwear. terror of terror! laundry tonight..no choice.leon jus did his laundry recently i think..so many underwear in our cupboard.hmm shd i just take one without him knowing?hahah okok bad joke.*eee*

one of the farewell pics with the indo gals b4 they left. myself, jenny, yenny, leon

will be back tonight with some more pics. blogspot not being very picture friendly with me right now. cheers

a thought. early in the morning

it was one of the hardest night i had since i came here. was coughing the whole night..silly cough still won't go away, even after a few days of medicine. woke up this morning, and in my half groggy state, i could taste abit of blood. to make it worse, it was the hottest night ever..yup, which could be a gd indicator that summer is really kicking in. i woke up really early this morning coughing like mad and sweating. gross combi.even though i switched on the fan to the max, i still couldn't go back to sleep. slept for like 5 hrs only last night..and the night b4 i slept abt 4 (cos i was watching 50 first dates dvd, lol). as i'm typing this now, it's 7.25am in the morning..gotta leave for work in about an hr. yawns..*lazy stretch* don't feel like going le.hahah..feel so stone right now.

it was interesting when i packed my cupboard last night and realised i ate less than 5 packs of instant mee in total since i came here. i was thinking back home in sg i would probabbly live off instant food when i got here, but somehow it's otherwise. i never feel contended when i get my meal in mere minutes. it has to be something new everyday, for me to really enjoy it. of cos there r days when i have to rush ard and thats when i eat the instant mee or quick snacks. other than that, i would prefer to cook up something with rice.lol..spoken like a true asian eh. i guess one of the reasons is cos there's a china guy in my apartment who doesn't really behave like a typical prc student.haha..he is so funky and crazy and he is nicknamed masterchef. learning so much from him..he has done dishes like pig trotters, beef stew, sze chuan chicken soup <- this is wow, etc etc.

taking a moment to remember my gd buddy yujun who left for sweden yesterday for his student exchange program. suddenly realised things will not be the same anymore in school when km and i get back without him ard. we used to call ourselves bhb-ly the fab4.haha..that'll be yujun, eugene,km and myself. had all the fun we could ever get. my year2 was so much fun cos of them probably. we clowned ard, ate together, sat thru lectures, went thru labs, had our share of squabbles and laughter, sat in eugene's xiaohong together, had tang yuan tog, enjoyed our badminton, tennis and soccer championships, checked out the cuter gals in sch, bought textbks tog..just so many things. but somehow i guess things will never be the same again..cos when yujun comes back from sweden, km will be gone to canada for his. i'll prob be applying for sep next sem too, so i guess yr2 left behind the fondest of memories for me. well as quoted from a show, it doesn't matter how long a gd time last sometimes, all that matters is that it once existed. haha i sound friggin brokeback..we're straight guys btw.

woke up at 5 plus this morning, and switched on to the christian channel. benny hinn's crusade in sydney. it was especially inspiring for me this past 2 days. i really felt God was speaking to me in some way. Over the past few months, i've always pondered over a thought. how can man be truly satisfied in this world? when we r filled with so many imperfections-be it physical, emotional or pyschological. even if we do manage to overcome some of them, it's all but a matter of time before more pops up in the course of time. how can one define happiness? who calls for it, and does true happiness equate having a stress-free life? over these period of time, i suddenly hit upon a small personal realisation. our human brain is so absorbed into the mechanism of focusing on the things we don't have, rather than on the positive things we already possess. for eg, why can't we wake up every morning being thankful that we have 2 legs that help us walk thru the day? that we can actually get out of bed unassisted? these matters appear trival, but hey, the program i was watching spoke of the testimony of a young pro footballer who was diagnosed wrongly once with some bone condition that rrequired amputation, he went through the darkest days of his life, hitting hard upon the realisation that he was never ever going to walk again, something he took for granted over the years. on the day of the op, he cried as he was prepared for the op. upon cutting up his leg, the surgeon realised it was a wrong diagnosis earlier and in fact, the footballer just needed a minor surgery to correct the problem. when the player awoke and felt his leg there and heard the gd news, he cried out and just simply gave thanks everyday to God for his leg. every morning b4 he gets out of bed he just thanks God sincerely for his leg.

Why do we have to wait for a time when we are on the verge of losing something before we actually start to pine over its loss? i guess there are so many things we could be thankful for tdy. a gd family, health, a chance to know god, a chance to study, gd frenz. be thankful for everyday because a thankful spirit dominates a discouraging soul. remember!

so nice to blog in the balcony. nice music playing on my lappie, everyhting is just so serene and tranquil.i look up and see nice summer houses, the boardwalk, a churchy looking church, americans strolling up and down the street. i need to go back in to prepare for work soon. listening to colin raye's 'open arms' now and whiffing in the morning air. *whiff* ahh

Coloumbian Party

a pretty dim pic cos my camera was running low on batt and the flash didn't work. bah.took many photos but all didn't turn out well. oh well..here's prob 1 of the brightest ones i managed to get.. taken with timon, andres and louisa. the party was gd, really had a gd time. a gd chance to let ur hair down, have a drink, chit chat, and dance ard. and when the spanish music came on, these coloumbians showed us what salsa was all about. it was a real eye opener dancing salsa with them. here the gals spin the guys..lol..and they themselves r so gd at picking up leads i feel they can practically read my mind. not forgetting the coloumbian and ecuadorian guys..learnt many tricks from them as well. can go back union square and try out.haha~

Bowling Night

The bowling cohesion night. it took place pretty late at night..after work.11pm i think and lasted till 3 plus. been ages since i bowled..and yup, american balls are heavier and the finger holes r larger. haha..everything here is supersized i guess. for the first time in my life i played in a lane with the gutter shield. was really funny to see someone throw a ball down and it bounces left and right like pinball. i had a 4 bagger that night, but on 2 diff lanes.haha so it was like 2 doubles. free pizza and soda topped it off..splendid. got to take pictures with the 3 singaporean babes, melissa, joy and shireen. also a shot with ecuadorian, alberto. he's only 18 i think..geeze..i feel 15 next to him =(
